Ceremony Venue Information
Reckord Armory
The University of Maryland hosts 18 commencement ceremonies across four campus venues. This page covers information specific to the Reckord Armory. Be sure to find the information specific to the venue(s) you will be visiting. A full list of ceremonies and venues is available on the School & College Ceremony Overview page.
LOCATION
The Reckord Armory is located at 4490 Rossborough Ln, College Park, MD 20742.
ACCESSIBILITY
- A drop-off area for guests with accessibility needs is located on the access lane (parking Lot QQ) between the Miller Administration Building and the Armory. Accessible parking spots are available at the Armory.
- Accessible seating is available for guests in wheelchairs in designated ADA/companion seating areas throughout the room, both in the front and back of the room. Each guest in a wheelchair can have three companions sit with them. Event staff will be available to assist guests with identifying accessible seating areas as needed.
- An ADA-accessible and unisex bathroom trailer will be installed at the ADA-accessible entrance.
- American Sign Language interpretation is available upon request. You must request this service from the ceremony coordinator in advance of the ceremony. Services are limited to availability. Contact the school ceremony planning team for seating instructions.
- Captions will be projected on video boards flanking the stage and on smaller screens throughout the venue, which will be visible from all seating sections.
- Additional questions about accessibility, including seating, closed captioning, and sign language, can be found on the venue accessibility page.
BAG POLICY AND PROHIBITED ITEMS
- All bags will be searched upon entry.
- Clear bags are not required, but are heavily encouraged for easiest entry. Bag policy requirements (such as size and discouraged bag types) that are usually required at UMD Athletics facilities are also recommended.
- Balloons, megaphones, noisemakers, poles, and sticks are not permitted.
- Personal signs are allowed. Please be mindful not to obstruct the views of other guests when holding your sign.
- The Reckord Armory follows the Prohibited Items & Behavior policy of UMD Athletics facilities.
PARKING
- Regents Drive Garage (RDG) is the nearest parking deck to the Armory and the best recommendation for parking. Guests who park in RDG should note this will also require 5-10 minutes of additional travel between the garage and the Armory, crossing the intersection of Campus and Regents Drives, which may be busier than usual during commencement activities.
- A shuttle will also run on a loop between RDG and all ceremony venues, with a dedicated drop-off in front of the Armory; timing will vary.
- A dropoff area for guests with accessibility needs is located on the access lane (parking Lot QQ) between the Miller Administration Building and the Armory. Accessible parking spots are available at the Armory.
- Traffic on campus can be busy during commencement. Give yourself additional time to travel to campus for these ceremonies.
- Obey all campus parking and traffic signage and regulations.
- Parking maps will be available soon.
